A simple guide to Novelty and Fake ID Card Production

There has been an increase of the popularity of novelty fake ID, particularly because of recent media interest in fake id websites. Sadly many of these sites are fraudulent. Many of these rip-off sites with either send you nothing or something which is a poor excuse for a novelty id card after taking your money.

These fake sites continue to proliferate on a daily basis. A common method used by the dodgy sites is to offer excellent quality samples that can be previewed on the site. They usually take images from legitimate novelty fake id sites or from the driver’s license handbooks books. This ID card guidebook is only obtainable by genuine law enforcement officials and businesses. It is however available across the internet. Each locality has a page devoted to it outlining each cards security features.

If you are unable to trust the internet sites then you are better served by creating your own novelty ID card. The difficulty of creating a novelty id card is dependent upon what type of security features you need.

When discussing identification, numerous documents come to mind. This document will focus upon novelty ID cards and driver’s licences, although the techniques can be used to produce a range of possible documents or cards of interest to you. In the early days, a driver license was simply a security document. This was typically laminated and may have included a hologram. Due to the recent improvements in card technology and the cheaper prices that came with it mean that better security measures had to be taken to prevent forgery.

Most modern novelty ID cards are made of ‘PVC’ or Polyvinyl Chloride, for example credit cards used PVC. Very expensive printers are required to produce these cards such as DNP and Eltron printers – these can cost up to 10k.

Creating an effective novelty ID card

A novelty identification card can be created yourself, or you can save time by using templates available across Internet. A template is usually a Photoshop file which can then be printed and laminated with a hologram foil. The novelty fake ID card templates you find will vary in quality, but there are excellent ones available if you search will enough out there. The best way to make sure your fake id card template is of excellent quality is to design it yourself. However, it’s not making an ID card template is complex and requires experience. Ultimately you must experiment through trial and error.

So, in order to build the template, you have two choices – you can either user a computerized scanner to import a high quality id card image to edit or you can design the novelty id from scratch. This is not for beginners and will take some work. Then once the template design has been completed your fake novelty id card it can be printed out.

It is important you choose the right materials for your novelty id card. If you will be laminating the card its best to use photographic paper, commonly available from any print suppliers. PVC id cards use a relatively new material called Teslin and is a cheaper way to produce effective and cost efficient novelty id cards. This material produces better cards when used with a laser printer than a common inkjet due to the properties of the material.

The next stage after printing the novelty id card template is to laminate the card. The type of lamination you choose is again dependent upon the type of material you are using. Standard and photographic paper types can use lamination pouches to compete the creation of the fake id card – a good thickness to use is 10mm. Teslin ID cards require special lamination pouches called butterfly pouches. Lamination pouches can be either gloss or matter and include either hi-co or low-co magnetic stripes. Magnetic strip pouches can be found on the net. A decent laminating machine for your novelty id card can be purchased for around 50. The next step is to add holograms.

There are several approaches to adding hologram to your fake id card. There are more complex methods including the user of Holo-cures and the like. It is advisable to instead use a hologram sticker/mask or hologram bonding machine which again be purchased on the internet. The newest novelty id cards use a multi-spectrum holographic image.

On a lot of the new ID's there is a multi-coloured hologram that reflects the full spectrum (like a rainbow). This is especially true of most of the genuine ids cards. The hologram can be placed on the novelty ID card after lamination or beforehand inside the pouch.


Remember making an effective fake id card is complex and you will make many errors, this being said, with enough practice it’s entirely possible. You must of course read as much related material as possible to produce the best looking id cards.
